Sedum speciesSedum
Sedum is an interesting looking plant, with showy flowers of an almost alien appearance. Flower color can range from yellow to dark purple. Native to Japan, there are several species of Sedum that grow in the Intermountain West, many found in all counties in Utah. Elevation: to 8,000ft. Does best in gravelly soils. Full sun to partial shade. Very slow growing and long-lived. Zones 4 - 10. There are a tremendous number of sedum species, with many producing cultivars. In addition to their flowers, the succulent texture of sedum leaves is a great addition to a rock garden. Common in the trade. Most easily divided. May also be done from seed. Sow seed in container and very, very lightly cover to depth as seeds are small. Keep moist until germination, 15 to 30 days. Plant out when well rooted.
