Family Compositae (Sunflower Family - Helianthus Tribe)
Description
Upright perennial with large ovate to broadly lanceolate leaves to 3" long and 2" wide.
Range
Tall to mid-grass prairies of the Great Plains.
Culture
Needs moist soil, as is not particularly drought tolerant.
Value
Striking orangish center with drooping purple leaves makes coneflower a great addition to any landscape, but it is fairly tall and coarse, particularly until it blooms in mid-summer, and it is not very drought tolerant.
Propagation
Germinates readily from seed. Sow seed onto soil; cover to depth. This is an easy one.
A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise.
