Agastache cana
Common Name      Double Bubblemint
Family                   Labiatae (Mint Family)

 

Description
Showy perennial with branching stems and narrow leaves. Flowers are one inch, usually pinkish-purple. Flowers are said to smell like bubblegum.

Range
Occurs in the southern regions of the intermountain west. Elevation to 7,500ft.

Culture
Prefers a well drained soil, full sun. Hardy to zone 3.

Value
Very attractive plant with rich purple flowers that blooms most of the summer with mint fragrance. Can work mixed with grasses or in a mass planting. Combined with good drought tolerance, a superior plant.

Propagation
Fresh seed germinates readily. Cover seed to depth. If seed is older than 1 year soak it in Hydrogen peroxide (the kind you buy at the market ) for 24 hours, drain and rinse. Sow, and cover to depth.
