Achillea millefolium

Common Name   Yarrow
Family       Asteraceae (Sunflower Family)

Description
Yarrow is an herb with hortizontally spreading rhizomes; stems stand erect from the basal foliage; leaves can be 2-26cm in length with 1-3 dissected segments. Foliage is feather-like.

Range
This perennial can be found in all counties in Utah and is widely distributed throughout intermountain west, north to Oregon and Montana, and south to Mexico. Elevation: 3,000 - 9,500ft.

Culture
Highly adaptable. Can grow in habitats ranging from deserts to alpine tundras.

Value
Yarrow has delightful, fernlike foliage that is attractive in its own right, as is the white cluster of flowers. Will tolerate drought, and becomes quite vigorous when given water.

Propagation
Germinates readily from seed. Sow with no cover or very light cover of soil. This is an easy one to try.
